Nationals series recaps from April 24th – May 4th; as well as The NatsTown Chronicle plans for the future.

Hello NatsTown Chronicle readers,

I apologize again for the lack of posting. As the college school year comes to a close, you know what has hit the fan and I have been drenched in work. In addition I have been sick recently and that has not helped either.

I have some exciting news to share with you all. We have made the decision to start expanding operations give the interest shown by several individuals. Within the next couple weeks we should be having more writers joining our team as well as a Facebook page and Twitter account set up in addition to our already existing Instagram account (@thenatstownchronicle). I still have a week remaining in school and when that comes to an end there should be a lot more activity from this blog. So get ready!

There has been lots of big stories from the Nationals since my last post, so here is a short recap of everything that has been happening!

Nats v Rockies series- The Nationals won the series taking three games in the abnormal four game series length. Trea Turner hit for the cycle in the second game of the series becoming the first player since former shortstop Christian Guzman did it in 2008.  Turner almost hit for the cycle again the very next night but ended the game just a triple shy of the already rare feat in Washington’s 11-4 win. Ryan Zimmerman went deep for his 8th home run of the year. Although the red hot Zimmerman had a day off in the series finale it did not seem to phase the Nats as they went off for a series high 16 runs. Bryce Harper went yard with a 3-run home run that was absolutely mashed.

Nats v Mets series- The Nationals dropped the first game of the series in the presence of deGrom’s twelve strikeout performance. Ryan Zimmerman hit yet another home run, but the main story was the injury to Adam Eaton, who had to be practically carried off the field. This was a horrendous sight for Nationals fans to see as just seeing Eaton play through April, it is easy to see the important impact he has had at the top of the order and in anchoring center field. It was later reported that with a torn ACL Eaton’s season is over. He said on Instagram that he plans on being the best teammate he can be and thanked everyone for wishing him well. Michael A. Taylor was named as Eaton’s replacement in center, so we wait to see how he will be able to fill the shoes of the dazzling former center fielder. Washington lost the series to the Mets dropping two of three games but the game they did one headlined Major League Baseball. 23 runs scored by Washington, 5 surrendered to the Mets. Anthony Rendon won the day going 6-6 at the plate, 3 homers, and 10 runs batted in. Those numbers are great for a series, let alone a single game.

April is finished! First month of the season down and Ryan Zimmerman wins the N.L. Player of the Month! All I can do is repeat, I said if the Z-Man stays healthy he is going to be valuable to the ball club, and look at him now. Zimmerman has some impressive statistics recording, 22 runs, 11 home runs, 29 runs batted in with a slash line of .420/.458/.886 (batting average/on base percentage/slugging percentage). The team has an impressive 16-8 record, greatly influenced by the contagious good hitting from the offense as well as a starting rotation that has been fulfilling preseason expectations.

Nats v Diamondbacks series- The Nationals took the series against Arizona. Dropping the first game of the series at home, Bryce Harper and Daniel Murphy were able to record their 27th and 28th runs batted in on the season. Washington came back and took the next two games 2-1 and 4-2. Max Scherzer struck out 11 Diamondbacks in the game and Bryce Harper was replaced in the 6th inning due to pain in his groin and has been listed as day-to-day. Hopefully Bryce is back in the lineup soon as losing another outfielder, especially the way Harper has been playing, would just be another blow to the health of Washington’s roster.

The Nationals start a series with the Phillies before playing the beltway foes of Baltimore. Thank you for understanding the lack of posting, I will do my part to be more consistent with it. More writers and their work will be coming very soon. Go Nats!
