I apologize for the lack of posting.
The Nationals have had some struggles recently dropping 2 of 3 to the Orioles, winning 2 of 3 from the Phillies, then dropping 2 of 3 to both Pittsburgh and Atlanta. There is not much to report other than the bullpen needs help…fast. Manager Dusty Baker has been trying many different guys from the pen and the right guy has not clicked yet.
The offense has continued to do their job. Ryan Zimmerman and Bryce Harper have led that charge, both leading the team in home runs (13). Both also have high batting averages, Zimmerman 0.362 and Harper 0.349 respectively. Washington is 26-17 (.605) which is the 4th best winning percentage in the bigs. They hold a 7 game lead in the N.L. East over the next closest team (Atlanta’s Braves). I wouldn’t be surprised if Mike Rizzo is able to workout a deal for an A or B name closer at the deadline as they have acquired Papelbon and Melancon the last couple seasons. The Nationals take on the Mariners tomorrow night, hopefully more regular posts to come.
An article by writer, Ben Fadden, on Bryce Harper’s record deal to avoid arbitration will come tomorrow.
